"All's Well That Ends Well"

To contact us Click HERE
How to begin to describe one of the most challenging, amazing theatre experiences I have ever been lucky enough to partake in? It's a challenge within itself. But, in the words of our heroine, Helena "My intents are fixed and will not leave me!"

I began my apprenticeship (chronicled in about eight blog posts here, on this blog) excited for the chance to work all summer on Shakespeare, but not even fathoming the depth that I would explore and the experience that I would have. We all met, and began our classes, knowing that some of us would be particpating in a seperate project with Dev, and no more than six of us would be cast in the main stage production with Commonwealth Shakespeare Company. When they read off those six names, it took me all of my might not to squeal with joy at being called to be in All's Well That Ends Well.

We were sent to the CSC offices later that week to give our best monologues to Steve Maler, the director and one of the founders of CSC. (Slightly nerve-wracking, yes). I chose to use one of my Lady Percy monologues, as I was feeling quite confident with it. After the six of us were finished, we sat down and discussed what it would be like for us as apprentices, understudies and ensemble members in the production, and when we would receive news of our roles. First rehearsal, I was a MESS! I was super excited and hyper, but trying to be as professional as I could be. Listening to our AMAZING cast even just do a read through, I knew I was in for an eye-opening experience.

I got the news a few days later that I had been chosen to be the first understudy to Kersti Bryan, who was playing Helena. If you don't know All's Well, she is the center character. I was at once humbled and over-joyed. And IMMEDIATELY began learning my lines. I wanted to make sure that if I were ever called upon, that I would be ready, more than ready. Also, Helena is such a strong and wonderful character to inhabit, and I wanted to give her due time to study and really step into her shoes. I posted once about briefly playing Helena in an audition I went to, and how connected I felt to the character.
Studying Helena lines at my station in the Women's Dressing room.
Almost always what I was doing when I wasn't on stage.
Each and every rehearsal, not only as I shadowed Kersti's journey in finding Helena, but my own journey to bringing my ensemble characters to their own life, was different and fulfilling in it's own way. The actors in this cast are not only unbelievably intelligent and talented, but also graceful, kind and very generous. Kersti made sure that we would check in every now and then and just talk about Helena; this troubled character in one of Shakespeare's considered "problem plays." We grew together in the world of the play, and I think the result was that of a very alive, changing, forward-moving story for the summer crowds of Boston to enjoy.

My view of Helena: I found through this rehearsal process; working alongside Steve, Kersti and the rest of the cast, that Helena is one of the oddest female characters you might come across in Shakespeare's cannon. To scratch the surface; she knows exactly what she wants, and she flies by the seat of her pants to get it. Whether or not it (it being Bertram, her love) is worth the struggle in the end, the audience is left wondering and deciding for themeselves. Helena is beautiful, and very smart. You can see that she tries to plot every detail of her very involved plan, but as fate would have it, everything goes amiss and she has to think on her feet. Luckily, she has the equipped strength of character to do it. I think that the best insight into her character is actually the monologue I used in that audition (Act I, sc. iii):

Then I confess

Here on my knee before high heaven and you,
That before you, and next unto high heaven,
I love your son.
My friends were poor but honest; so's my love.
Be not offended, for it hurts not him
That he is loved of me. I follow him not
By any token of presumptuous suit,
Nor would I have him till I do deserve him;
Yet never know how that desert should be.
I know I love in vain, strive against hope;
Yet in this captious and intenible sieve
I still pour in the waters of my love,
And lack not to lose still. Thus, Indian-like,
Religious in mine error, I adore
The sun that looks upon his worshipper
But knows of him no more. My dearest madam,
Let not your hate encounter with my love,
For loving where you do; but if yourself,
Whose agèd honor cites a virtuous youth,
Did ever in so true a flame of liking
Wish chastely and love dearly, that your Dian
Was both herself and Love, O, then give pity
To her whose state is such that cannot choose
But lend and give where she is sure to lose;
That seeks not to find that her search implies,
But, riddle-like, lives sweetly where she dies.

I loved playing her passion, her courage and her knowledge. She is a character that will not leave me for a long time. Kersti was amazing in the role, and her approach was fascinating. Like Helena, Kersti has a fierce presence and a fragility to her that was beautiful to see. She is an inspiring actress, mentor and friend to me, I will cherish learning from her.

As for my other characters, there were three; the main one being a servant girl, whom we affectionly named Bernice. Bernice was a servant in the Countess' house. Bernice was not very bright, everything she did had to be re-done by Renaldo (the head servant, played by Wayne Fritsche). All my blocking as Bernice was either following or being instructed (and re-instructed) by Renaldo (Wayne) so I created (for myself) a very lively, bunny-like maid character, hoping only to add to the world we were creating for All's Well. My other two characters were only present in one scene each, one was a courtier I named Maeve (for this I got to wear a BEAUTIFUL sky blue and creme colored costume (detail shot coming up!)). And the last was a rather saucy maid living in Florence, who oogles all the solidiers coming home from war. As a part of a long-winded, play-related joke, I named her Fontibell. These characters I am describing are the results of where I took my ensemble roles to deepen the world we were creating. If they sound silly, so be it. It is a comedy after all. Was I mainly focusing on studying Helena? A little. But did I have fun with my characters? You bet your bottom dollar I did.

To close, I have not, nor could I ever write down the amount I learned from being in this production. There are too many great actors to list, praise and thank, crew members to worship and far too many great things I have taken into myself as an actress, that have changed me for the better. Working with Steve Mahler on my first professional show was so wonderful. I have learned so much about not only acting, but Shakespeare, his words and language and his message we were trying to tell with our story.

As I have said, I am beyond grateful for this experience. It confirmed my love for Shakespeare, tested my stamina and improved my acting! Thank you CommShakes! I hope to continuously be a part of this growing artistic family!

All the best,

Micah

P.S. I will conclude my Summer 2011 journey with CSC with a small picture barrage to show an insight of life at AWTEW.

From 'Titus' to 'Christmas'...

We closed Titus Andronicus last weekend, and I cannot say how proud I am of the production! We took some musings we had about the show this summer and created a company that produced a great show that audiences had GREAT reactions to. We never officially "sold out" however, we did fill the house every night. I looked around as we were warming up and saw all the people I know and all the people I have recently befriended doing this show together and I was just beaming with pride. As I have said, I am very proud of my Lavinia; I worked very hard on the role, and had so much fun performing every night. There was a great deal of challenges with the production, and a lot of things that we learned to help us as a company. I cannot wait to discuss where we want to go next. We have a couple of ideas....but I'll share that when we know what we are doing!

Moving on! After a mere five days off, I began rehearsals for a WONDERFUL production of A Christmas Carol with The Hanover Theater! I got cast back in September as "Belle," Ebenezer Scrooge's once-fiancee. (EEEE!) It is a professional contract (I get some Equity points) and it pays (always nice to get paid for the work you love!) It's amazing. We started rehearsals yesterday and so far, wonderful. The show is based on the timeless classic book by Charles Dickens, and no matter what, always moves me.

After the first read through last night, the adult cast (we have a lot of child actors; Tiny Tim, Ghost of Christmas Past, etc) we had an in depth discussion about the show and about the story that we are meaning to tell, and how important it is. The things that really stuck out to me were the following: The reasons why we as the people of London, need to re-tell the story of Scrooge. How it saved him and how it refocuses our energies to what is most important in this world; Love. The fact that, for a 'Christmas' story, it rarely has religious references focusing us on the Humanity of it.

I can't wait to start digging deeper into the character of Belle. She is one of the only people that Scrooge has ever outwardly loved and he loses her because he loses himself. So far, we've only read through and worked on some music and choreography. I've got to get to work on my British accent, but I'll be back soon with more on Belle, and more on our process! In the meantime, fun weird fact I just found out, the beautiful and extremely talented actress who played Lavinia in Julie Taymour's Titus (1999 version of Shakespeare's play), Laura Fraser played my character (Belle) in the 1999 Christmas Carol directed by David Hugh Jones!!! Although she first played Belle and then Lavinia...weird weirdness.

Laura Fraser - Fiance Belle
Oh and we need to get back to Hamlet. It's been, what, twenty one posts since my last Hamlet post?
Come on.

Shakespeare's Moments: Globe to Globe

My friend, Joelle, always brings the best things to my attention!

I am in a particular Shakespearean mood these past few days too as I have a call back for a production of Twelfth Night in a few days(!) and I have recently begun re-reading Contested Will by James Shapiro (the ultimate discussion of the Authorship Debate, a review of which, I will soon post about).

Anyway, so this is wicked cool: Public Radio Exchange (PRX) is hosting London's Globe Theater's multicultural celebration of Shakespeare this spring. The Globe has invited 37 theatre companies from around the world to produce Shakespeare's works employing specifically their cultural traditions and languages. Plays including: Titus Andronicus, Othello, Cymbeline and many more!

This is a celebration of the world's multi-cultured love of our Shakespeare! No other global celebration has ever taken place like this. Each theater presents their unique understanding of the plays and PRX brings insights into those performances to you! So take a listen!

Enjoy,

Micah

Yesterday, LJ's buddy came over to play. For the first time, I saw my boy flap. His usual stims are spinning, chewing, and vocal. He was so excited his buddy came in to play, he was flapping all over the living room. It was cute, he looked like a lil duck or penguin.
The older kids don't play with LJ much. He is a very in your face child. He is a non stop talker. He likes to dominate play and direct everyone on how he thinks they should play. He also has a great imagination, and it seems many kids lack this??? Now younger kids, he's great with them, and they love him. He is a bit emotionally immature for 6, but thats ok with me. I am in no hurry for my baby to grow up.
So his buddy came in to play. It lasted about 30-45 minutes. LJ was a motormouth from Hell. He talked non stop, was in his friend's face, and just off the wall hyper. I wondered how long it would last. Not long, as usual. His friend said he would be back, but hubs and I knew better. Lj is catching on though. He only looked out the front door 3 times, before he said, "He's not coming back is he momma?" I told him no, and quickly diverted his attention with a jello sensory bin.
Meltdown avoided, go momma!!!! I was very happy that "A" took the time to play with Lj as they have been buds since he was born (only 10 months apart) but "A" is maturing emotionally faster than my boy, so its hard for them to play together now. Being a special needs mom, we learn to find happiness in the little things. For its the little things, that make our days!

Digging in! This is LJ's favorite sensory bin!
Creepy crawlies!!!
LJ loved his blue green "hulk" hands :)
Well, its Friday! It wouldn't be Friday without some Special Need Ryan Gosling pics. Without further ado, here they are :) Enjoy!
Now, as we all know, the Special Needs Ryan Friday was Sunday's idea. She has been under the weather, as is her hubby, so she hasn't been able to take part. Please stop by her blog and show her some love, so she knows we are thinking of her! As for me, I made this Ryan, just for her!!!! <3
I love summer!!!! Swimming, cookouts, "schmaws" (smores in LJ speak) The best part, swimming tires my boy right out!!!
As always Ryan, you have the best ideas!!!!!!!
Have a great weekend all. Stay cool and enjoy summer!<3<3<3<3

Yesterday I finished my video. I am so thankful to all the families who shared with me pics of their ASD loved ones. Without them, this video would not have been possible. My goal now is to share, share, share the video, and spark some awareness for our kiddos <3I have gotten replies from a few people that missed the pic deadline for this one. I will make another video, I am just not sure when I will do that. I will let everyone know though, in case they missed being in this one.ENJOY <3<3<3<3

Autism and a High Five to the Face!

To contact us Click HERE
Let me start by saying that those of you who know me, or follow my facebook page A Legion for Liam know that for the most part, I am totally Pro Autism. I choose to see the positive side of our life, because I don't have time or energy to let it get me down. Also, Liam is mildly autistic, so it is with greater ease that I can see the positive side. HOWEVER, Autism certainly has a way of sneaking up on us and high fiving us in the faces.
I have taken a mini break from my blog for the summer. Today I am back, with an autism vengeance! The summer has been going great so far. Less meltdowns, more socialization, LJ is trying new things, its been great, with only a few minor bumps in the road. Until recently. I have seen my son regress when it comes to ruminating. For those that may not know, (I didn't when I was first told the term, I had to look it up, lol) Ruminating is a constant reflection on something. To think it, and think it, and think it, and THINK IT!!! My lil guy is a ruminating king! Lately though, his ruminations are getting the best of him. Though I am usually always open about our life, I am choosing to keep the exact details of these ruminations to myself. Too many people are quick to judge and I don't want my handsome man judged for something he has no control over. I do believe I know the root of the ruminations, and hubs has called the therapy office to up LJ's mobile therapy hours. Hoping this can be fit into her busy schedule as they have this woman all over Timbuktu, I am surprised her head isn't spinning by the end of the day!
I just wish I knew why Autism thrives on sneaking up on us all and ruining a good run?!?!? Why must my 6 year old be plagued with thoughts that are too much for an adult to handle, let alone a little man? Why him? Why us? I know I will never know, and letting it get me down is like letting it win. So KMA Autism! You will NOT get the best of my son or my family! We are Autism warriors, and be prepared for a fight!!!!!

Taking a stand against Autism and Ruminations!!

Summer is flying right by! I can't believe we are at the end of July already. So my step son is staying with us for a few weeks. LJ is on cloud 9. "Bubby" is his idol! Its adorable. What is NOT adorable is the excess amount of energy LJ seems to have. He is ALWAYS hyper, like he has a motor in his little butt that keeps him going. Hard to imagine he has been worse! I don't understand it. Every day we are swimming, then in the evening he is outside riding his bike, playing with the neighbor kiddos. Yesterday was the worst!!!! We were house bound due some funky weather (CLICK HERE for some pics around our area) Liam was NOT having it. He was off the wall. B-O-N-K-E-R-S!!!!!!! Its not as if there are a lack of things to do in our home. He has a TON of toys, none of which he plays with anymore. So my first diversion was some Dr. Dreadful fun.....
sippin' some zombie barf :P
Josie had to get in on the fun!
Zombie brains! Funny how other things make him gag, but not zombie brains, lol.
BUGS!!
So this diversion lasted all of 30 minutes, and we were back to off the wall insanity! B then distracted him with the Xbox. Another 30 minutes of quiet while I attempted to clean this hog hole. Then Liam decided it would be more fun to beat on his brother. UGH!!!!! I broke that up and got out his peanut. Maybe some input would calm him down??????
First I rolled it over him....
time for some bouncing...
He loves to bounce!!!
now its a "horsie!"
this is how he occupied himself afterwards. He sat and lined up shells :) (yes, my antique table needs a nice refinishing, its on hubs T.D. list :D)

So this gave me another 30 minutes peace. Afterward he also settled down. Praise the Lord!!!! He was calm the rest of the day until the storms came in. He handled that pretty well too, but was out of sorts last nite. He discovered two new stimming words. In the car last nite, it was "arrow" over, and over, and OVER again! Then before bed it was Galifinakis????? (From a  new movie) Apparently he likes the sound of that word, lol. I don't, not after 30 times!!!! Anyway, its Friday!!!!! Busy day and weekend ahead! Hope you all have a great one. <3<3<3<3

Note: For more info on the benefits of a peanut, check out Fun and Function.

You know, when I was originally formulating this post in my mind, I thought that I would just look up quotes or conversations that those goonies on shows like Jersey Shore or Real Housewives said while they were being recorded. However, during my research, I started seizing because my IQ was falling at such a rapid pace.

The point I was going to make was that if dumb idiots like Snooki and SItuation and IDon'tKnowThese'TardNames can get their own show and be on Dancing with the Stars, WHY CAN'T i ?

The following is why Bestie and I should have our own freakin' television show:

Scene: One of my very best friends had a baby last week. Her in-laws are precious, but are much more well-to-do than I, had several conversations while Ashley was in recovery. Action!
Me: So Ash's in-laws were trying to decide which places they should go to lunch. I didn't recognize one restaurant they mentioned, so when they asked me for a good place to eat, I tried to think of the most expensive place I had eaten and it wasn't what they were looking for.
Bestie: What restaurants were they talking about?
Me: I don't know. Some places that started with "Cafe" and ended with a French word.
Bestie: Yeah. We eat at places that end in cafe.
Me: Like "Today, I had lunch at The Hospital Cafe." It'd be different if I said "Cafe Hospital."

So it's finally happened. My bestie and inspiration for craziness has finally realized that I am severely disturbed and probably equally undermedicated. I don't know why. All I did was tell her about my latest dream. I don't know why she freaked out.

I'm at the point in my night life now where I realize that I am dreaming and just decide to have fun. I can fly all over the world, move stuff with my eyes, and smooch a still very much alive Heath Ledger. I obviously enjoy dreaming, but every now and then a nasty ol' nightmare will slip in and ru'rn my life.

Night before last, I had the first non-lucid dream that I've had in a really long time. In my dream, I was watching these freaking idiots kayak in the middle of the Perfect Storm. Naturally, their kayaks all flipped over leaving me creeping about in the sky, praying that I wouldn't have to rescue them because I am absolutely terrified of drowning.

Well, I had to. Jerks and their inability to survive underwater....

I was swimming in the ocean trying to save some of these morons when about 200 of these appeared

Scary. Super scary. Times 200. I'm not exaggerating about the teeth. On the contrary, there were more than that. Luckily, as one was about to introduce me to Steve Irwin, I remembered that I COULD fly and pulled lots of dumb deep sea kayakers to safety.
Part of me wishes that I could say that was the end of the dream. But no. This was one of those dreams that I could not wake up from.
The next thing I knew, I was sitting with a man that I rescued that was apparently my husband. As we were snuggling, I noticed with my X-Ray vision that he was moving in a freakishly similar way to the giant Robot Sharks. I suggested that we go see a doctor who, unfortunately confirmed my fears. My husband was bitten by, and was slowly turning into, a giant, radioactive robot shark.
Obviously, I was devastated. I'm pretty sure that the man in my dreams was attractive. I know I was madly in love with him because I crawled to meet Sheldon Cooper so that we could keep him from turning into a monster.
It worked. Only except for that he didn't know who I was. I used all my chips with stupid Sheldon and he wasn't up for building a time machine to take me back to the point before the love of my life was turned into a freaking zombie of the ocean.
I'm still a little upset about it, actually.

Nice Guys Really Don't Finish Last

To contact us Click HERE
A couple of weeks ago, one of my favorite YouTube stars made a video about how "nice guys" don't really finish last. The basis of Jenna Marbles's video was nice guys go for girls out of their league with which they have nothing in common, are rejected, and then become all emo and pouty.

I was shocked and appalled at the comments left by these "nice guys"!! They were vile!! One responded to the comment I posted (which I am going to discuss here) and called me a variety of unsavory names. I told him that maybe if he stopped playing Call of Duty 18 hours a day and developed some people skills, he wouldn't come across as so repulsive. I regretted that because it only fueled his pathetic little fire.

If by some slim chance in hell any of the "nice guys" who left nasty comments on that video reads this blog, the only thing I have to say to you is you're not nice. You're actually quite horrible.

So while I agree with Jenna's statement, I disagree with her reasons. I think nice guys don't finish last because they go from "nice guy" to "creeper." So really, they are a "creeper who finishes last."

This sounds cruel and was the reason Mr. Call of Duty felt it necessary to call me names, but hear me out.

There are lots of nice guys in the world. Sweet, loyal, friendly, etc. Their mothers and grandmothers have told them what a catch they are and any girl would be lucky to have them. However these guys lack a very important quality: People Skills.

Like Mr. Call of Duty, they are petted by strong female relatives, who may or may not be crazy themselves, but lack the ability to have a conversation with a non-familial female. If/when a new girl approaches this "nice guy" and, God forbid, gives him positive attention, his brain starts to go into overload.

This is the unfortunate trigger that sends Nice Guy into Creeperville.

He starts to become very clingy. Always asks the girl who she is with, what she's doing. Calls every fifteen minutes and texts every two. Next thing you know, you catch him going through your dirty laundry sniffing your underwear.

Now, he's a Creep. What do we do with creeps? We call the police. Or, at the very least, change our phone numbers.

Yesterday Liam's brother left after his 2 week visit with us. This usually creates a crap storm of tears for my lil man, so momma thought ahead and got some sensory fun ready. Liam was stoked, B was kinda bummed as he wanted to take part as well. Liam informed him, "NO!! You get to leave, I don't!" I have nothing to say to that, which is odd, I always have something to say!
So here is what we did. I will post the pics and then how I did it. Enjoy, I know Liam sure did!

This one was cool. I started with an old ice cream bucket. My plan was to layer the ice in rainbow colors, but that was taking too long. (yes, momma often lacks patience too!) I gathered up some small toys of the boys. (Dollar Tree has lots of these things, that where most of ours come from.) I started with about 2 inches of water, added some toys, freeze. Repeat until bucket is full. Then its time to excavate. Liam chose the small hammers because his toys ones weren't strong enough to break the ice. SAFETY GLASSES were a must as the ice really full. (a few of the toys didn't make it :/ he was using the claws of the hammer and it broke the toys) NOTE: I must give credit where credit is due and I would like to thank COUNTING COCONUTS for this idea.

This one was AUSOME!!!! I even got into this one!!!! First I started by making up different colors of water, and freezing in ice cube trays. Then I got a white sheet, and placed it on the table outside. Next, let your kiddos go to town!!!! When finished, hang to dry and you will have a gorgeous tie dyed sheet! My favorite was his little hand prints all over :) (ours got rained on, so today we have to redo it. Liam was NOT happy, but changed his mind when I told him he gets to do it again.) Again, credit where credit is due and for this idea I have to thank SHARE AND REMEMBER.

After a visit to our friends it was time to relax with a bath. I decided to finish off the night with a sensory bath for him. This time we decided to use his new balls from "grama Sue." He loved it, had a blast with them! I can see this sensory bath becoming a nightly thing :)

Enjoy the fun, we sure did!<3<3<3<3

Fine Motor Fun

Yesterday we had fun making noodle necklaces! Liam has been sick, as have his friends, so it was a nice to make them feel a bit better with some fun. LJ and his friends loved it. It was also great for his fine motor skills, and the pincer grasp. All disguised as fun! What could be better?!?!?!
We started by dying the pasta the day before. 2 projects out of one is AUSOME!!!! I made a handy dandy pic to explain this process :)

Dying rice is the same way. We love our dyed rice too! (Neon food dyes do give brighter colors. We didn't have any left :/ )
Once the noodles are dry, its time for fun! We waited until the next day to be sure.We used thick fishing line to string ours. Plastic lanyard would have worked great, but of course Liam got into mine so it was nowhere to be found. The kids made some gorgeous necklaces :)
It was very hot out yesterday, but being the kiddos are sick, they couldn't swim or really get wet. So instead, I broke out the colored cubes, and some watercolor paper, and they went to town making art  :)
To make the ice cubes, simply dye some water, and pour into trays and freeze. Again, the neon dye was brighter and worker better. (blue was the only neon I had left and it worked much better for this)
All in all, we had a blast with our crafts, and Liam worked on motor skills without realizing it. A win win for this momma. Hope you too have as much fun as we did :)<3<3<3<3

NO VS. FIRST & THEN

Does your Autie kiddo hate the word "NO?" Does he/she become angered or maybe enraged when told "NO" too much? Mine does. Its NOT fun! "No" has always been an issue here. Thing is, it's not that he is bad, its that he despises the word itself. If you tell him "maybe" or "we'll see" he handles that much better.  We've also started the "First and Then" method. So far so good. Example. Liam will say, "momma, can I have chips?" I will say, "first you have dinner, then you have chips." Sounds simple I know, but it works! Let me get brainy sounding for a minute :) ......

First/Then Strategy

  • First/then teaching provides organization in the mind of an autistic child and allows them to associate tasks. One example of a first/then strategy is the visual schedule of daily events. A visual schedule will help lessen anxiety by providing structure so that a child can understand what is expected of him. A schedule could include a picture of a homework assignment then a picture of a computer. This tells a child, first you do homework, and then you play on the computer. When developing a visual schedule always include at least two tasks, so a child will understand the concept of sequencing activities.

First and then.....
Are based on a "first-then" strategy; that is, "firstyou do ___, then you do ___", rather than an "if-then" approach (i.e., "if you do ___, then you can do___"). This first-then strategy allows the "first" expectation (whether a task, activity or assignment) to be modified, as needed. The modification is in terms of task completion and amount of prompting, in order to accommodate the student's daily fluctuations in his ability to process in-coming information. Then he can move on to his next visually scheduled task/activity.

good example of first and then visual
Also, while looking for more info to implement this for Liam, I stumbled across some blank visual aids or PECS to reinforce the strategy, and customize it to your child.
Visit Postively Autism HERE and you will see a free printable of blank First and Then charts.
My suggestion for this is to take poster board and make a First and Then graph. Put some velcro on each side. Now go through and make pics of the first and then tasks. This way, you can change it to your child's needs. I will be making one, so I will post pics when I complete mine.
As for clip art to make the pics, try Google. It has many free images, simply type in "free clip art."
Good luck, and I hope this strategy works well for you all!

As promised, a pic of Liam's First and Then chart I made today :)

FINE MOTOR & SCIENCE FUN

Now that all the work is done in LJ's class room, it was time for some fun. Daddy took him fishing yesterday with some friends. He was proud that he was the only one to catch a fish. He also came home with a monarch "callepittar". We put it in the tank and are going to watch the metamorphosis, then release it. (Did you know in our area of the world Monarch's are close to extinct?? Lj said he had to save this one :))
When the men came back it was time for fun with mommy. While I was on my Pinterest yesterday I found some fun looking science stuff that would also help Liam with his Fine Motor skills. You know me, I love to kill 2 birds with 1 stone. (thank goodness LJ is just learning to read, he HATES that metaphor, he really thinks it means to "kill") So anyway, I got this cool idea from another momma over at The Artful Parent.
Liam really enjoyed it. (NOTE: kiddos hand will get messy, Liam's are still green, as is his face from trying to eat the ice.)
Pictures say it best, so here goes:
getting started. I made ice cubes in different sized bowls. Then you will need salt and different colors of water.
salting the ice
let the salt sit and start to melt the ice, while you make your colored water
momma (the big kid) had to try it to show Liam
Liam trying it out
the more the salt works, the better it will look
The finished product

Liam loved this project. He LOVES salt, so he had fun eating the salty ice when he was done. Hope your kiddos enjoy it too.<3<3<3<3
