There has been tremendous news in our world. Since Sunday, May first, every news station, paper, article, etc is covering the death of Osama bin Laden. He was a cruel man and leader of the terrorist group al-Qaeda, who caused the death of thousands of people and was behind the terrorist attacks of 2001 on the World Trade Center, The Pentagon and Flight 93 that crashed near Shanksville in Pennsylvania on September the 11th. Easily, the worst day in modern American history.
I don’t want to give a history or biography for this person, and before we go singing “Ding Dong, the Witch is Dead” (As we have seen in all the rallies and “USA” chanting crowds). I’d like to emphasize this quote by Martin Luther King Jr. that I have been seeing all over the place and I believe it is appropriate for the times.
EDIT: The previous quote I had posted is incorrect (Thanks, Abbie!)
"Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that. ... The chain reaction of evil—hate begetting hate, wars producing more wars—must be broken, or we shall be plunged into the dark abyss of annihilation." -Martin Luther King Jr., Strength to Love
Yes, this is a historic time for the USA, and for any nation or people striving for peace. But we must be humble about it, and thankful and gracious. Am I happy that Osama bin Laden is dead? Honestly, yes. He was responsible for the loss of thousands of lives and he launched the attack that tore a hole in our county and changed forever countless lives. I would have liked to see him locked away, but I have NO right to decide anyone’s fate. But am I glad that justice has been served? You bet.
I am proud of America. And I am proud of our President and especially the brave soldiers and military personnel who made this possible, and I am glad in the sense that Bin Laden will no longer have a hand in horrific attacks, nor be the fan to the flame of terrorism.
I think Obama’s Statement to the press was wonderful in expressing this happy news without being boastful, and being as respectful as possible, not to bin Laden, but to Islam and the people of Afghanistan and the Middle East.
The pictures of the President, Vice President and other staff members in the Situation Room say it all. This truly is a historic time.

I sincerely hope that no one takes offense to this post. I am merely expressing my thoughts and feelings. I do not wish to be incendiary, nor spark any debate. This is simply a post for me to collect my thoughts on what I am seeing and reading on the news.
Best,
Micah
