Over this summer, as you know from all my Commonwealth Shakespeare Academy posts, I was working with peers that were passionate, talented and dedicated to this art we are pursuing. It was absolutely wonderful and eye-opening to work with people my age that were as driven about Shakespeare and acting as I feel. Throughout the summer, when we were SUPER busy with classes and then heading straight to the Common for a show, or around Boston for our touring shows, we realized that although we may be exhausted, we loved working as hard and as constantly as we were.
I don't remember how the subject arose, but somehow, we started talking about wanting always to be working on something, and wanting to find creative, new, unique approaches to Shakespeare. Also, about Shakespeare's Titus Andronicus. Before I go any further, I must reveal that I have always been absolutely fascinated by this play. There is so much action, drama, depth and surrealism that can be dealt with in one story. And, yes, I love the bloody-ness of it. I may be a little obsessed with violence/gore on stage.
(Let's call a spade a spade shall we?)

(Fake) BLOOD |
Thus, FCTC is born, and we, the proud parents are now watching it begin to take its first steps. We held auditions in early September, with an amazing turn out, and from these we have been fortunate to acquire an amazing cast, and assemble a fantastically gifted design crew. I am lucky to be cast as Lavinia, Titus' daughter who, well, let me put it this way; doesn't talk much and isn't going to be giving any helping hands any time soon. (Why? Come see our show and FIND OUT!)
We have been rehearsing like crazy, employing our new exercises learned from the Academy as well as experimenting with new games, new approaches and ideas and suggestions from our cast and crew. The work is amazing that I am seeing. Titus is opening in two weeks, (AHH!) and we are so excited, scared, happy, proud and nervous. This is our dream, and I can't believe the amount of support it's getting. We have a lot of people, including a few from our friends at CommShakes attending, we had a generous amount donated to our Kickstarter fund (which closes in two weeks, so get there!), and our actors and crew are working so hard to bring this story to life. I can't wait to see what happens!
